Media: Blind or Hypocrite?

These days whenever I talk to any of my friends over the situation in India, I always get the same repetitive replies. When I talk to them of communalism, they know only one name, that of Modi as if he is the first person who failed to give security to its fellow citizens. When I talk of suppression of the right to express, everyone has the same much propagated news of protests by VHP, Bajrang Dal etc as if no other religious group has acted in an extremist fashion

Considering this is a nation where people imitate west and bollywood blindly, no wonders if they got victim to the partial truth exposed by the media. Being a youth and a person living with youths, I can say that the younger generation is least concerned to investigate the truth. They swallow whatsoever is offered to them and not to mention the fact that that many of the youths read newspapers just to crack some competitive exam. Hence in any of the debate, they vomit what they have swallowed.

In this post, I would try to come up with facts that were not covered by media at all ; the media was either blind or hypocrite over those issues

1. Whenever I have read the term ‘Vandalize’ in the newspaper Hindu, it has always been used to describe some nuisance by Hindu religious extremists like protests by VHP over M F Hussain etc. Surprisingly media has never talked of protests against Taslima Nasreen and Salman Rushdie to this extent. But today I would reveal a case where Police vandalized an art exhibition just because it was showcasing what kind of ruler Aurangzeb was. After reading all this things, the questions that come to mind are-what kind of people could have problem in truths about Aurangzeb being showcased, what kind of governments do we have that can go to any extent to appease minorities? Are we living in Pakistan? Media was too eager to blame VHP that even during Amarnath issue furor, no channel mentioned the growing extremism and reducing hindu rights

2. Media is often seen protesting against Hindu religious extremists alleging them for having zero spirit of tolerance and condoning violence. Here I would bring to light an incident in Kolkata where the editor of the newspaper Statesman simply translated a text and published it. Soon there was a furore accompanied with subsequent violence. The question is – why wasn’t this issue raised with equal weightage and no debate done like they do every other day over Hindu religious issues?

3. Whenever it comes to riot, my friends have been brain washed to believe that Gujarat, Orissa and Karnataka are the only states where riots have occurred. I would let you all know of a riot which happened in my own hometown Mau. Several Temple Idols were vandalized and shown disrespect, many died with the possible involvement of Don Mukhtar Ansari . At the time when Barkha was busy covering the Gujarat riots, atrocity upon Hindus occurred once again in Kerala, but our secular media was least interested. Very unfortunately, riots/clashes happened in Rabodi, Jintur or Nanded didn’t get any place in media at all. Root causes were never brought to knowledge of a common man. What kind of secularism is this? This is not at all an extremism and vote bank politics for media. Wasn’t this a riot ?

4. When a dilapidated mosque was demolished in India, what followed is history but surprisingly when the 300 year old and still active rehman mosque was demolished in Pakistan, media remained silent. Taliban demolished that mosque since music was practiced there and as per them music is forbidden in their religion. We all have seen how our fellow brothers protest over US attacks in Afghanistan, Iraq but once again there was no hue and cry by them over this demolition? Why this silence? (Issue raised in Dainik Jagran’s editorial, printed edition)

5. When Sethu Samudram issue got raised, impotent central government filed an affidavit saying that Lord Rama has no proof of existence and hence the project must carry on. Can this very same central government ever file an affidavit saying that since Jesus has no proof, let us demolish churches. Similarly NDTV even went to an extent to say that Ramayana is a myth and hence in modern times, Lord Rama should be depicted with modern accessories. Can this channel say the same thing about prophets in other religions? Definitely no, we all have seen the furor over Denmark issue. Then why these double standards by our Indian media?

6. When media discussed Varun’s statement issue with so enthusiasm, then how come they neglect this issue. Surprisingly, no reporter ever tried to find out if the people in Pilibhit are really being persecuted? (Click here for more)

7. Why media never discusses the anomalies in NCERT books?

8. Why this partiality ? simply because of vote bank politics, is it too difficult for media to decipher

These were the issues showing the hypocrisy of Media, Let us have a look at facts showing how much is our media blind

1. Media failed to capture the Bangladeshi infiltration to an appropriate extent. No alarming bells were raised; perhaps it wasn’t sensational news for them?

2. Not only national but international media is blind to the atrocities towards Kashmiri Pundits. Click here for more. No slots for growing extremism in the valley

3. Why at all media has never focused on the local supports used by terrorists while planning any terror attack. It is an open secret that no bomb can ever be planted successfully unless there is a local support. Are they not terrorists too?

4. Media has never tried to bring the real face of missionaries to the general public. Missionaries are involved in mass conversions is a widely acknowledged fact, then why is common man debarred to know all this?

5. Religious terrorism has devastated entire North- east (click here) but our media never cared to bring this issue to the notice of a common man. Kandhmal violence was discussed but no one even talked about these issues.

6. Is only one community responsible for riots in India? Definitely not, then why is this difficult for media to figure out that our filmmakers are more interested in getting Oscars than showing both sides of the coin

7. BJP is communal, but when other parties ask for minority votes, aren’t they communal ? What kind of definition do our media follow? Why Congress was not penalized for unable to hang Afzal . Click here for more. Congress and similar other parties are still not communal for them

8. Are Christian missionaries really being persecuted in India? Why only one face of coin is showed to the common masses?

9. Is this not growing extremism ? Just like they found Ram sene as a sign of growing extremism.

I don’t support any extremist group but yes, I expect my fellow citizens to have open eyes, they should hate violence in any form. Cover all news, why to leave the half and present the rest half news? I am not here to support any damn Indian party or religious group, but media should never focus and siege only one community, they should only reveal the facts and let the public decide the root causes

Now let us have a look at who controls our media.

1. Times of India is run by Bennet and Coleman

2. NDTV: Indian CEO Prannoy Roy is co-brother of Prakash Karat, General Secretary of the Communist party of India . His wife and Brinda Karat are sisters. Recently it has developed a soft corner towards Pakistan because Pakistan President has allowed only this channel to be aired in Pakistan

3. Star TV: Run by an Australian Robert Mudroch

4. The Hindu: English daily, started over 125 years has been recently taken over by Joshua Society, Berne, Switzerland . Chairman N. Ram's wife is a Swiss national.

P. S. - To further support the facts mentioned in points 1 and 5, I have the videos with me. All those who are interested to see them can mail me.

dude...you are fiery and eloquent but unfortunately u r supporting the wrong cause...u have blamed that media never publishes nething about supression of individual freedom by groups not associated with hindu fundamentalists...i have one question...how did u come to know abt them if media didn't cover it? infact some of them have been covered aptly by newspapers..i remember having read about almost each and every incident which u claim that media has ignored...!! check ur facts...thats the only advice i wud like to give...and as far as writing skills are concerned u have composed a nice article with gud permutation of words...keep writing but do verify the facts !!

Dear Mr Saket

I am happy to know that you have already read about these issues? Perhaps you are enlightened
But let me get some more facts for you
First of all, covering and covering with havoc are two different things. Media just to prove that they are secular, somehow gives space for Hindu rights as well but never exposes the truth on TV, which has a wider audience. I had to do pretty good surfing while getting all these facts at a place. Infact a closer look would reveal that mostly the facts are from the source of a single few columnists(and you thought that TOI is so good)
So when it comes to hindu rights, you mention them in internet column, but when it comes to Modi and RSS, you show them on TV and gather public mandate...this is called Koootneeti which you would take time to understand

Secondly, you have read each and every incident, it's so surprising..my friends still think that Gujarat is the only state where riots occurred

On which channel you saw missionaries true motive being showcased? Please let me know, i would like to donate for that channel

chill dude.We want justice man ,not spitting venom over media for doing nothing.Muslims killing Hindus and Hindus giving it back to Muslims when the point of concern should be man is killing man.India, democracy has not allowed the rule of the majority.Issue after issue, powerful minorities landed interests have been able to capture the political system and extract government benefits for themselves. There is nothing like unbiased media.Media is in entertainment business with pseudo intellectualism in few shows. We have to fight for lost causes....

Its an irony that despite giving proofs, Hindus still think that Media is good enough and the person concerned is spitting venom. Getting humiliated and persecuted for free is in the blood and history, So what more can I say

But Media is the 4th pillar of Democracy, therefore it is my duty to let my fellow friends now that media is biased and they should investigate the truth by themselves

Fighting for lost causes would start only when we would let people know the real truth and that first step has been taken

Dear Mayank,

I read your blog post and I am impressed by your meticulous compilation of various pieces of news, video and editorials under the appropriate hyperlinks. Great job !! In fact, the story of Sonia's antique-smuggling activities are fairly well documented in the internet, if only some one cares to read them all. Yet, we shameless Indians have hoisted her to the throne of a "bahu" and a "selfless thyaagi" who gave up the opportunity to become the PM of the nation. And we are all waiting with bated breath for Rahul Gandhi's yet-to-be-born son who will then lead the nation, after his college-drop out dad has finished leading the nation. Shame on all of us Indians.

And, reading through all that, I started getting the feeling that we Hindus will spend the next million years (if we survive in this country that long) only lamenting and wringing our hands but achieve precious little beside that. In my opinion, we have been deluding ourselves all these years that "Hindus are a majority" in India. We are NOT. Hindus are a clear minority - for, how else do you explain that Hindus are at the receiving end of all possible atrocities and injustices that are being heaped on us for the past 60+ years and still not being able to lift a finger against all this nonsense.

Even the so called pro-Hindu BJP has not done anything substantial for the welfare of the Hindus. Is it not time now for a deep introspection among the Hindu intelligensia and take some concrete action to correct the course of events?

Let me know your thoughts..

You wanted to know my thoughts
I have interacted continually with young generation and came to a conclusion that 2 things are to blamed

1. Firstly, the past few generations. Our recent ancestors only taught us to be agood clerk. How many of the present parents teach the story of Ramayana to their children and also the hidden stories behind it. Even if somehow they teach Ramayana, they forget to tell about Vedas, they forget to tell why we practice idolatory and why do we have 33 Koti (it means levels not crores as is generally interpreted). Few of my impotent Hindu friends openly blame multi God system and idolatory, I only laugh and feel ashamed of their parents. They forget to warn of the dangers and discuss only english so that their son becomes a good clerk. How many parents teach their child to follow Rama, to always side with the truth etc etc

2. Secondly the brain wash by Media and that is what i have exactly targeted this time

There is another reason too. Indians have a long history of being turncoats, forgetting duty just to follow/get luxury/money. Recently I also came across a few persons who were blaming BHU authorities that they digest all the money which comes as funds and surprisingly they themselves do big frauds when made mess manager. It is in the blood of Indians. we feel pride of western things and feel ashamed of our ancient culture

I totally agree with mayank.
Media and our political parties they are just aiming for their wellfare, no matter what cost has to be paid by the people of India.Talking about an idle democretic system, eutopian soceity sounds good only for debate but on ground realities, they all are just fake. Our politicians are desperate to do everything for minority vote bank. And our media will higlight Amir Khan's bday etc and other spicy news with no ground of morality. All the issues raised by mayank are pretty legitimate and will never be resolved.

Thanks Shashank for commenting, I am obliged
Nice to know that your eyes were opened by my sincere efforts, I feel as if my hard work got paid back

Anyways, you would be surprised to know that in UP and Bihar , all govt. aids are being provided as per religion. If your name is sita, you wont get loan and if your name is saira, they would give you loan

you can read it all here

http://www.dailypioneer.com/164149/Varun-was-harsh-but-so-is-truth.html

Question why are we being treated like this
Answer is that we are divided, their votes are decided by mullahs by fatwa, but our aren't and thats what causes this extreme loss
The only solution is recognizing our strength and giving an end to over liberalism and over

You can also look how VC of AMU came forward to support those accused in Batla murder case but here no one is ready to stand with Varun, just because of the 3 reasons I mentioned earlier

Came across your blog while reading about post-Godhra riots.
Have to commend you on the multitude of sources that you've posted in one single blog. I understand and share the pain of living afraid of the minorities in a country where we are the overwhelming majority and this is no thanks to the media and shortsighted, atheistic governments. Hindus are not violent by religion and they don't need to suppress other religions. Christianity and Islam WILL do this if they are a majority or even close to it. We need a Hindu government at the center for a long time to right so many wrongs that successive stupid governments have been committing. True long term peace is possible only in that case in India.
