Being Pragmatic

India is the worst affected nation when it comes to terrorism and awfully appalling repercussions are unprecedented. It is more than 2 decades since the apocalyptic curse reverberated in our motherland. We have always been peace lovers, but this time we were more of impotent and unconcerned. India has always been generous in helping neighbors. Pakistan is no less than a tumor for this world, how could it have been better for India. We were always breached and daggered right at back. Likewise, we only liberated Bangladesh from the shackles of persecution, only to crumble any future hopes of getting a reliable ally. Latest to join the league is Nepal. Anti India sentiment in Nepal is an open secret and we can only see it shaking hands with China

Recent Mumbai terror attacks shattered all tall claims of security. When we are unable to provide security to our guests how can we think of protecting a common man? Problems in India can never be compared with any other nation because of its multi cultural composition. There have been continual analyses over this crisis. Some claimed that it is because of Jihad theory in Islam and some asserted that it is because of miserable socio economic of various sections. Some affirmed that all terrorists have same religion and some emphasized that terrorism has no religion at all. These debates are never going to end as neither side is willing to scrutinize root problems and accept to change and thanks to politics as well for aggravating these issues.

As responsible educated youths we need to emerge with cogent solutions. Politics is destroying this nation and we need to end the inherent insipidity. I am not here to motivate my friends to join politics or army. These days I came across a few concerned nationalists(on TV) who shared some pragmatic solutions to overcome this problem of terrorism without any communal bias. These solutions intend to ignite a voice to an extent that it becomes a popular mandate.

1. Be it Naxalites, separatists or militants; politicians have surreptitiously buoyed them. Dividing the Indian masses on religious/caste/regional/cultural lines is no longer a facile approach, fecund political parties are a threat and none has considerations with the interest of nation. Time has reaped when we should raise our voice for a Dual party system. When a party would have to contest on national basis, regional biases would terminate. No longer would there be Raj thackrey and no longer there would be trifurcated mandates and consequential purchase of representatives. We should all pledge and strive to bring this issue to the notice of everyone, raise it through proper channels and in future if any party promises to come up with similar agenda, we would all vote for this cause.

2. As it has been proved that terrorism has got no religion, why not to go for this one. We all are aware of the fidayeen attacks where the suicide bombers explode themselves. Our warriors our brave enough to apprehend some terror elements as well. Let’s go for a law which talks of burial of killed terrorists by any ritual other than Islamic. Be it Buddhist, Sikh or Hindu way of cremation, it doesn’t matter. What we have to make sure is that all terrorists coming from Pakistan who claim that they are going to get jannat by such heinous act should not be buried as described in Islam. This act would deter all those who defame Islam and would also defy all so called religious efforts to get jannat. Fanatically devout terrorists would be forced to think of some noble way to get jannat. Once again this issue requires proper mobilization through appropriate channels.

this is called an initiative by youth n for youth...... India need these kind of people who can drive masses by their writings........ although i would like to criticize too on some points like blaming the whole country would not be so fair coz its not always what you see is correct but we can see only half truth........ but all in all nice thoughts , well crafted and well presented too.

have i blamed the entire country?
though i have blamed the impotency which is an open secret
anyways who do u found responsible?

Pakistan as a country is not that bad, people of that country also want peace development .... economic stability ... better lifestyle as we do ...... but they are carrying a legacy that was established by some fanatic people who don't understand the real meaning of ISLAM.... people get carried away by the sentiments they have for their religion .... the system cant be blamed coz it is outside the system that harm us n whole world.........u must understand that we can not blame a country ... terrorism has no face .... if u remember Pakistan is more troubled by terrorism than us ....but yeah u are right on the point that they are not very efficient in dealing wd dat ....... never mind the time probably has come that the problem would be dealt by global powers ...... so hope dat in the coming time we can ensure peace and security in our country at least.....and in future the whole world......jai hind

nice assertions
well the situation is like that of bhasmasur..they started it and they have to face it as well
if they r really serious to end terrorism, first thing they need to do is stop lying over azmal kasaab
irony is we r still theoretical and not pragmatic

nice work bhaiya, i completely agree with bi-party system. Some people may disregard its effectiveness in diverse country like India, but many parties are making politics a filthy pool, so this seems to be a pragmatic solution.
well u've planned a nice stairway to heaven for terrorists ;)

i absolutely agree with you in dat matter sir ........ the time has come dat they have to act else they will have to face serious consequences........ they are on their toes ... since matter is getting serious now .... positive result is expected ds time ...let's see wat happens ...your assertion dat everytime political system is faulty is up to an extent correct . so nice work ...keep it up .............

nice post....the only thing i appreciate is that the youth has started thinking....and the intentions of getting rid of these troubles is good....but hey...i don't agree with any of the "suggestions"...particularly the 2nd one...to tell u the truth...this kind of an idea seems to me more fatal than terrorism itself....if these r the kind of hands we want to put our country in...then i'm afraid i'm on the other side...still have a lot to say...reply to this if anyone wants to have a further discussion

S J Mayank Srivastav said...

@chhavi: the first thing to admit here is that these views are not originally mine, i only agreed with them
anyways, i think to deal with fanatics, one has to think in that way only..i see no point in being humanistic towards terrorists
Though i know that the 2nd solution is a bit absurd, but something tells me it can be very effective

@chavipreet
hey man .... plz dont get sentimental on the issue ...i have only said dat see things from the other side too ..... a country like india can not take any step in haste...... mind u it is not usa.... we have our own constraints... in past we have faced many restrictions as a consequence of our actionsand our growth an development was hindered..... let me tell you ... right now we only have the option to build a constructive paltform ......u have to realize d fact dat terroism can not be curbed in toto....war is never a solution.... terror cant be curbed wd terror ... it only creates more discontent....it changes its face .... only if u are aware of history...we blame the political system everytime ..its impotency ...... but do we ever realize dat hw tough it is to be dr and take such vital steps....it is not very wise that we go for a war and later repent on dat .... lives of million are at stake....so lot of deliberation is required......please if u realise ds by my comment let me knw...or if u feel otherwse den also let me knw.......

@mayank
i agree my frnd dat we shd nt be humanistic towards terrorists bt my dear frnd d point is dt if everytime we act like dm ....wat wd b d difference btwn dem n us...i m nt of d view dt we shd nt act against dem .... bt dr is always a way u cn deal wd dem .... mind u our system are very powerful bt we do not use it efficiently...ds is a big loophole i accept ...n need to be corrected.....our police, raw, ib ...our indian army ...are among d best but hw many ppl in dem are serious abt dealing wd terrorism ... corruption n carelessness are major reasons for dr failure........

@aditya: oops....perhaps i didn't make my point very clear....i am not in favor of any "war" or for that matter the blatent use of "force" against terrorism...infact quoting myself "the only thing i appreciate is that the youth has started thinking".....i'd like to stress on the word "thinking"....lemme elaborate on my point here (n this goes for both aditya n mayank n for anyone interested)

"terrorism"...my friend...is a "concept"...it's not a country...and certainly not a religion....i'm afraid the first thing that comes to anyone's mind when one talks or hears of "terroism" is a man with large beard n a turban...having an ak-47....a devilish urdu-speaking lunatic whose sole aim is distruction....n therefore the "simple" solution anyone thinks about is to "kill" him....terrorism can not be "killed"...u cant "attack" on it...u have to "defeat" it....but for that u first have to "understand" it....for u cant beat an "enemy" unless u know him....now i can go on and on on this but i wont.

@mayank: the most primitive way to look at this matter is to associate terrorism with a religion....although i dont expect u to do that...but...my friend...the 2nd point in ur post shows me this...n i strongly disagree with that

now resonding to aditya's questions:
1) i know how drastic war can be, i never said that i look at it as a solution...so i think we agree on that

2) ur last comment is precisely what i think...i completely agree with u...n yeah it's not the whole picture...n u know that too...infact it's good that u're not veiled by the common thinking

@mayank n aditya: i really appreciate the discussion going on here....keep it up...we need to drill a lot deeper

@chhavi
grrrreaat man .... fantastic..excellent thoughts... i m happy dt u gt my point ......infact u cought the nerve of the issue .....unfortunately bt ds happens in ds world.... still ppl see only one side of the coin .....
a great point dt ws raised by u ws dt we hv to understand the 'enemy' ...
just a request dont take dem as enemies bt rather see dem as a part of our society wch has a lot of discontent against the system ... a let me tell u a very vital point ... d reason behind ppl join this lot is most of d time economic and nt other factors ..... wen they are debarred frm havng basic amenities of life .... dey are ought to tk sm drastic steps n ds is d time wr d evil play dr role n provoking dem fr any cause is damn easy u knw .............. so societal changes are the need of the hour ........

@ Mayank

Lemme begin by appreciating the novelty of the writer’s ideas.. I think we have some novel, iconoclastic ideas here that offer points for a nice debate and I’m happy that the true spirit of discussion is being carried forward.

I agree that as a country our approach towards tackling terror has largely been soft and ineffective. The systems are simply not in place and in sync with each other. Each time there’s a mishap.. there’s this discussion about Chief/Home Ministers regretting intelligence failures. Some people always know about the possibility of events happening but inevitably they come about and unleash havoc. In the end, we are merely counting casualties.

As a nation, we have not learnt anything from our losses that keep repeating themselves with an alarming frequency.

But I have my reservations 2 regarding the article.

Point 1: The first Idea that struck me.. Terrorism=Islamic=Pakistan=Jihad… Quite missing the point. If you consider terrorism by what terrorism does then focusing only on certain countries and/or people from certain faiths that are seemingly propagating it, excludes a lot of people from the net. I consider BJP and the RSS as the biggest criminals-terrorists that threaten the internal peace and security of the land. Did u know that the RSS initiated terrorism of the religious kind in this country.. way back in the 1930’s when they first introduced the Hindu Separatist Ideology. These ppl are a scourge on the Nation. Terrorists need to be handled with an equal/firm hand.. Alas, our politicians do not have the spine/nerve to do that. Not to forget the complicity in crimes against their own electorate.. We do need to set our own house in order first while keeping focus on the external threat too. This has to ensure that institutional/infrastructural changes are effectively/efficiently carried out.

Point 2: The second point gives the Idea which is no doubt novel and sounds fancy that terrorists should be cremated! You began with the notion that is “widely held” that terrorism does not have a religion and you exposed your bias towards the end of the article!!

Anyhow, the Idea can be murderous.. since implementing on a wide basis it would ensure that the casualty per dead terrorist rate will go up tremendously. The rationale could be that the terrorists are anyways not going to heaven, but they can surely avenge the backward conditions their brethren are forced to thrive in by exacting a maximum penalty by killing even more people as a consequence of angry retaliation. It is not a sensitive/empathic/sensible but costly idea to implement.. If thinking about “your people and giving up your life ’selflessly’ may actually count as a pious duty” then they may think that they’ve anyway made it to heaven even if they did not get a proper burial and were cremated instead!

heyy 1 more thing.

Don't u think a multi-party political system is better suited 2 A multi-identity nation like ours? It's sth that ensures inclusive politics.. altho it may not b as efficient in our context....???

Guys i have more to say
How many of you have shown concerns for bangladeshi intrusion and do u have any idea wht is the amount?
Do u know that they r being given ration cards and being settled in all those constituencies where BJP wins so tht BJP loses it the next time

When a burglar enters your home and threatens to kill your mother, would u all open a book and start reading the illiteracy, poverty level in india or would thrust him out?
theories being given for too long manifest impotency and not altruism/humanistic attitude

Guys we need to save our present population, if we are going for sending good teachers to pakistan and teach them how to be a good human being, we would lose another 50 yrs and another 10 million of us
its impotency and nothing else
Azmal was angry over the situation of muslims in india, wasn't he aware of condition of hindus in pakistan? u all r asking to be soft towards those guys who have no self conscience...its only impotency

but even then i tried giving the most bloodless solutions...i dont believe in blood for blood but i do believe that there exists a solution always which only a true leader takes

S J Mayank Srivastav said...

apart from whtsoever revelations i did in response to comments on 2nd post of mine...here i give more eye openers about we impotent modern youths who think the way media makes them to think...these r some ground term realities which i am pretty sure all might not be knowing:

In Kashmir 48 temples were destroyed (as disclosed in the parliament) prior to the Babri Masjid episode, Why was there no Hue and Cry???

Q In Bangladesh, Nearly 900 Temples were bulldozed - Why was there no protest?
A-We are Secular. but at denmark issue, iraq issue..everyone knows wht happened

In Pakistan, Even the talk of conversion warrants death penalty. Why in India conversion is within the constitution?

The Attack on Muslims in Gujrat is really unfortunate. It has been decried by most of the countries worldwide.BUT WHY they were silent and are still silent when THREE AND A HALF LAKH Kashmiri Pandits were thrown out lock stock and Barrel by the Muslim Majority in their OWN BIRTHPLACE?

When members of the Hindu Minority were killed,Their women raped ,Houses Looted and Burnt,WHY were the secular leaders in our own country remained quiet?

M.F Hussain painted Goddess Saraswati in Nude. The attack on him was condemned by these Super-Seculars. When Sir Salman Rushdie wrote Satanic Verses,Iran declared death sentence for him and India was the first country to ban the book .THEN WHY DID OUR COUNTRY HESITATE TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST M.F HUSSAIN?

After Partition the Hindu Population in Pakistan was reduced to 0.4% against 5% but in out country Minority population has increased from 7% to 11%.In addition to that we have One Crore Bangladeshis to look after. Why?

There are nearly 57 Muslim countries. Show one
Muslim country which provides Haj subsidy.

Show one Muslim country where Hindus are extended
the special rights that Muslims are accorded in India?

Today Hindus are 85%. If Hindus are intolerant, how
come Masjids and Madrassas are thriving? How come
Muslims are offering Namaz on the road? How come
Muslims are proclaiming 5 times a day on loudspeakers
that there is no God except Allah?

In what way, J&K is different from Maharashtra, Tamil
Nadu or Uttar Pradesh, to have Article 370?

Hindus minorities in J&K, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, etc? Why
Hindus are denied minority rights in these States?

Abdul Rehman Antuley was made a trustee of the
famous Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
Can a Hindu - say Mulayam or Laloo - ever become a
trustee of a Masjid or Madrassa?

Dr. Praveenbhai Thogadiya has been arrested many
times on flimsy grounds. Has the Shahi Imam of Jama
Masjid, Delhi, Ahmed Bukhari been arrested for claiming
to be an ISI agent and advocating partition of Bharat?

When Haj pilgrims are given subsidy, why Hindu
pilgrims to Amarnath, Sabarimalai & Kailash
Mansarover are taxed?

Arabic language is promoted in India at Govt.
expenses. but not Sanskrit? Is Arabic more national
than Sanskrit?

IMTD act in Assam gives legal rights to Bangladeshi
Muslims to settle and become Indian citizen, whereas
Indians cannot settle in Jammu & Kashmir. Why this
double standard?

If the communal riots is due to RSS, VHP, Bajrang
Dal, etc. why there are riots in Bangladesh, Pakistan,
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, Indonesia,
Chechhnya, China, Russia, UK, France, Spain,
Cyprus, etc. - where there is no RSS/VHP.

UN Charter says that minority means less than 10%
of the population. How can Muslims, who are nearly
20% in India be called a minority?

How come a Muslim family peacefully lives in a
predominantly Hindu locality, whereas a Hindu family
is not able to do so in a Muslim locality?

Why Hindu dominated Bharat is secular for ages and
Muslim dominated countries are only Islamic with no
powers to minorities?

All Hindu-majority regions are peaceful. But all Hindu-
minority regions have become problematic - like J&K,
North Eastern parts, etc. Can you explain why?

Are you aware that the so-called secular Maulana
Wahiduddin, when asked to pray for the Indian soldiers
fighting at Kargil, refused, under the pretext that he
cannot pray for people who are fighting the Muslims?

A Pakistani becomes Indian when he marries a Muslim
girl from J&K. But when the same girl marries a Hindu
from any part of India, he does not become a J&K
citizen, but on the contrary, she loses her J&K
citizenship.

When you are asking for the resignation of CMs like
Narendra Modi, Uma Bharti, etc. on trivial grounds,
why are you not demanding the resignation of the CM
of J&K, where thousands of security personnel have
been killed by terrorists? - where nearly 4 lakhs Hindus
have been ethnic cleansed.

When one Graham Staines is killed, the English press
goes overboard in condemning his killers. But when
58 Hindus, including 30 women and children, were
burnt aline in Sabarmati Express, they kept silent. The
victims are depicted as the villain. Is this responsible
journalism?

Delhi Imam Syed Bhukari declared that Taliban is the
ideal for all Muslims and Osama Bin Laden is the hero?
Do you consider him a secular icon?
why no cries then?

Delhi Imam Syed Bhukari is rearing a Black Buck in
his courtyard, which is against law. The Delhi police
team which went there to arrest him, came back calmly.
Is he above law?

In J&K, about 2 lakh Hindu adults are voters for the
parliamentary elections, but not for the assembly. Why?. The duration of the J&K assembly is six years and not
5 years as in other states. Why?

Do you support the building of a Memorial for Afzal
Khan, who plotted to kill Chatrapati Shivaji, in
Pratapgarh (Maharashtra)?

Hindu girls are molested and gangraped in
Bangladesh. Temples are burnt or destroyed almost
every day. Why none of our secularists and Human
Rights Activists raise their voice for Hindus in
Bangladesh. Are Human Rights only for Muslims?

Why Muslims go after building Masjids and Madrassas,
and not schools and colleges? Do you think Madrassas
churn out Scientists and Engineers?

In Mallapuram (Kerala), a doctor found that 3
generations of Muslim women - daughter-13, mother-
26 and grandmother-39 - all pregnant being admitted
for delivery. Do you still think that family planning is
unnecessary for Muslims?

The author of Ramanayan, Rishi Valmiki, was a bandit.
Same way, the author of Mahabharat, Veda Vyas, was
a fisherman. Both the epics and the authors are revered
by all Hindus. Do you still think that Hinduism supports casteism?

In 2002, the Karnataka Govt.’s revenue from temples
was Rs.72 crores. Out of this, 50 crores were given to
Madrassas, 10 crores to Churches and only 10 crores
to Temples. Why Hindus should pay for development
of Madrassas (terrorist factories) and Churches?

When Taliban demolished the Buddha statue in
Afghanistan, Times of India wrote that it was in reaction
to the demolition of Babri mosque. Do you agree to
this justification by TOI? Is tit-for-tat OK? Then why do
you criticize Gujarat riots in reaction to Godhra carnage?

the real case we all r not concerned and when we see any thing like Post godhra, we just watch TV, get excited and start speaking foolish
Protest but protest in totality, there r several other things which we should be protesting against
please get rid of pseudo secularism

S J Mayank Srivastav said...

wht i mentioned r just true facts regarding our over liberalism and pseudo secularism

are we really against injustice?

@mayank: u remind me of narendra modi...u remind me of the last dialogues of the movie "shaurya"...u've written so much that i find it difficult to start responding to it(yes i have the answers)...u've written 4 comments here...lemme move in sequence:

commment1: where u "explained" ur 2nd suggestion....quoting u "we only have one way..do something with dead bodies of fanatics which is humanitarian as well as defies their plan of getting heaven by religion." here's my point:

1) first of all i wont even try to count the number of times u've written "hindus","muslims",etc...mind u this debate is on terrorism and not "communal peace in india"....if u dont agree to this...do not bother to read further...i'm sorry to say then u dont "qualify" to discuss on terrorism

2)lets look at the aforementioned statement carefully: "do something with dead bodies"....no discussion here....this is cowardice...the most inhumane thought ever

3)"which is humanitarian"...explained above and part of it below

4)"defies their plain of getting heaven by religion"...ah i'm happy u said that...here's a closer look:

a)first of all u assume that they have a plan of getting heaven....this is altogether wrong...so incorrect that it makes me question the credibility of ur points in the rest of the comments

b)after ur first assumption u seem to believe that if given a proper funeral they "will" (or "might") go to heaven..that is y u want a different "treatment"

c)u assume that if a muslim is not buried...he wont go to heaven....this is the most childish asumption...i'm sorry to use some strong terms here...but u left no choice

comment1(contd..): quoting u again "Only muslim terrorists fell into this category who r too fanatic(they do every bit of custom unlike hindus or christians who r pretty lax)"

ah..i can write essays on each n every word of urs here

1) ur assumption here, only muslim terrorists spread "terror" coz they think they'll get jannat...n the rest of the terrorists (if at all u agree that there r any) do so for some (yet unexplained by u) reason

2)"who r too fanatic"....wow...u've set a limit on being fanatic....n hey lets look at ur definition of "fanaticism" further

3) "they do every bit of custom unlike hindus or christians who r pretty lax"...i'm an atheist...but i'd say "laxicity" would be a weakness...they "truly" (or u might say "blindly") believe in their religion....that's not fanaticism...n hey..."unlike hindus" is completely normal...u shouldn't even have mentioned this (unless u hate this fact...which..my friend...i hope u dont)

comment1(contd..): these r not age old theories...lemme tell u what the age old theory is...."a terrorist is a pakistani"....that's what we've been believing in

what did USA, France, Spain do to counter terrorism?? burn their corpses??? naah....n u call ur solution "pragmatic" again n again...i wonder y din u think a lil more

the fact that u dont talk abt RSS and their "deeds"....the fact that ur worried abt the "composition" of nepal(a foreign country..."but hey it's a hindu country!!" u might say)...the fact that u think "giving rights to other communities in the name of 'minorities'" is wrong....the fact that u're worried abt "money coming from UAE" into "madarssas" (when we're the most illitrate country..."and what an education!!" u might say)...the fact that u "question" the "purity" of christian missionaries makes me really sad...i din expect this from u....what happened in kandhmaal?? u ask?? is that the only "incidence" u know?? do u even have the slightest idea of the whole story?? i bet u dont...imitating "salman khan" is a child's play....nobody here's doing that...."while data says an entirely different story"...hahaha....my dear friend...wake up...u've been fooled

in the end i just wish n hope this is not the opinion of a common "awaken hindu"...i just hope not

hey....sorry to say...but i dont feel like responding to the rest of ur comments now...it's too much to write....n there's so much wrong in every statement that i think we should go step by step....make a point n lets discuss that...then proceed to the other....writing essays every time won't help ne of us

nice assertions

once again it is a common habit these days to treat the truth as per personal discretion
when someone talks of truth, talks of root causes that lead to a carnage...either he becomes a rational or communal
while everytime truth was being spoken
wht i expect from modern youths to see truths from start and in totality
it is not the socio economic condition always, sometimes it is some sort of religious verse too responsible, here i spoked a truth and see u thought of a blasphemy
we all r victims of some images and some blind hypothesis.

its a common tendency, but who is more tolerant?
one who listens to every truth or one who listens to sensational truth?

i would like to give an example..it is a fashion these days to talk of modi, godhra
does anyone has ever talked of Mau killings, the one which showed the true face of some elements

once again i told u a truth and u alleged me of being communal

y not to grasp every truth and take actions in a rational way, and not in the way we see our ready to sell leaders

once again i would say killing of every indian is a crime, y not to follow a fair policy

if we blame rss for killing christians then we should talk of elements responsible in Mau too(there r several such hidden stories)
once again i asked u to be rational and u alleged me of inciting hindu muslim fight

its a common tendency, i have the guts to stand to it and face it, but to save my fellow indians....i can go to any extent possible but with pure truth always

Chhavipreet Singh said...

don't be misguided...my friend...to an extent where u neglect other's opinion considering them to be inspired by "common thinking"....u might have done ur homework...but so have we...u're not the ONLY "enlightened" soul to have discovered anomalies in the "common knowledge"..so have we

this is my last comment on this post....write whatever u want..but don't underestimate others...u might have encountered numerous "blind fools"...but it's not that everyone's sleeping except u

no more from me on this

i know u r enlightened and might have done homework
thts wht i said in blog, neither side is pure and none is ready to scrutinize
it happens
but believe me, others dont even care to go in deep as long as they have consolidated roti kapdaa makaan...they really have common thinking
even they read newspaper just to prepare enlish and write good essays

get rid of the images that i support modi, rss
i feel ashamed of hindus for wht they did in 1984
i follow a rational policy...killing and persecution of every indian is a crime

i can still spend inks, no end

truth should come up even if it means breaking up of my images, my blind hypothesis
